Black Boy See Anthology
CALLING ALL BLACK MEN
Literacy Moguls Publishing is seeking 6 AA male co-authors and 20-25 contributors (AA males only) for a new Anthology project--Black Boys See-- to be released in Fall 2018. This anthology will be the "sister book" to the recently released anthology, Black Girls Hear.
There is a healing power in telling your story. So, imagine bringing stories together in one place so that others may benefit, wake up or just sympathize in a way they never could before.
People of all races see black children as less innocent, more adult-like and more responsible for their actions than their white peers. In turn, normal childhood behavior, like disobedience, tantrums and back talk, is seen as a criminal threat when black kids do it.
Social scientists have found that this misperception causes black children to be “pushed out, over-policed and under-protected,” according to a report by the legal scholar Kimberlé W. Crenshaw.
That’s why we must create a future in which children of color are not disproportionately caught up in the criminal justice system, a world in which a black 17-year-old can wear a hoodie without being assumed to be a criminal.
How does your race influence how you are treated in society?
Have you had an experience where someone did not expect you to be smart or capable or "adultified" your actions when you were just a kid?
So, what do Black Boys See? How can we address the challenges they face and offer hope?
Black men are often ignored in policy discussions. Tell your story or perspective to help shed light on the injustice and societal bias. Talk to us about the challenges inside and outside the create the Black experience they see and live.
