State to state with its message of leadership for young women
One thing that immediately became apparent to Tween Star Awards Founder, Shekina Farr Moore, while working as an Assistant Principal in North Carolina Public Schools was that girls are not celebrated enough for the the right reasons. Young women shrink in the shadows because they are not expected to be leaders. She, herself, had left the teaching industry to pursue administration partly because the pay was so low. She recalls thinking at the time, "I wonder if teacher pay would be so low if the field was 80% men instead of 80% women?" This is a valid point. Women continue to make less than men and have to do more work to get the same credit a man would. "Women know that they will make less money going into a field dominated by women. It is very sad." And what happens when they decide to go into fields dominated by men?... they are called 'bossy' and other words that set a double standard for leadership expectations.
"We want to change that." Tween Star Awards started with a vision to shine light on girls who were doing big things but simply weren't getting attention.
"We are now going state to state with our campaign message: 'Leaders Where Pearls.' We are raising awareness that girls, too, have a right to not only sit at the table, but to order the best on the menu."
The first year of the event, People You Need to Know Magazine featured Tween Star Awards. The following year of the event, Tween Star Awards was featured in a spread by Connected Woman Magazine and Diamond Diva Magazine.

The company offers CARBSâ„¢, an effective self-esteem course for girls; serves a national certification resource for women who mentor girls; and produces national girls empowerment events and campaigns. Those events include Tween Star Awardsâ„¢ a national recognition platform for girls, The B2F Women's Retreat, AuthenticiTEAâ„¢, B2F Girls Roundtable, and the B2F Girls ZOOMâ„¢ Conference. Her campaigns include: Blah to Fierceâ„¢, Leaders Where Pearls and Letters to Our Daughters.
She has been featured in many publications, TV and news programs, including Bravo TV, CW-22, WSB-TV 2 Atlanta,108 Praise Radio, People You Need to Know Magazine and Carolina STYLE Magazine, to name a few. Shekina has been recognized as one of 52 Empowering Women Who Empower Girls and featured in Atlanta's Who's Who. She is the honorary recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Woman of Impact Award, and the Presidential Volunteer Service Award signed by U.S. President Barack Obama.
Her B2F Girls! organization has recently been honored with a House Resolution at the Georgia State Capitol, officially marking February 26 as "B2F Girls! Day".
